You know, um when you study structural failures in civil engineering, there is almost always a very clear, traceable chain of events.
SPEAKER_00Right. You can usually find the exact point of failure.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. You look for microfracture in a steel beam, or I don't know, miscalculation in the load-bearing weight of a pillar.
SPEAKER_00Aaron Powell It's all very measurable.
SPEAKER_01Right. There is a specific mathematically verifiable moment when the physical reality can no longer support the structure and it simply collapses. It is entirely measurable.
SPEAKER_00Aaron Powell But when you examine a psychological and moral collapse, which is what we're looking at today, the warning signs are rarely that obvious.
SPEAKER_01No, they really aren't. And we are looking at a landscape of human behavior today that is incredibly complex and honestly deeply unsettling to unpack.
SPEAKER_00Aaron Powell I think that structural engineering comparison is exactly the right framework for what we are going to do today.
SPEAKER_01Aaron Powell Because the failure points here aren't physical.
SPEAKER_00No, in the timeline we are examining, the failure points are ideological, they're psychological, and um they happen in slow motion. We are going to look at how a foundation of ordinary, everyday life can be systematically dismantled and replaced by a highly rigid structure of extreme radicalization.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to an extensive, meticulously detailed exploration of one of the most complex investigative timelines in recent legal history.
SPEAKER_00And we have a lot of ground to cover.
SPEAKER_01We really do. We are going to trace the chronological biographies of two individuals, Chad Daybell and Lori Ballow.
SPEAKER_00Bringing us right up to the present moment in 2026.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. We will follow their distinct paths from their early lives, carefully tracking how they collided. Our mission today is to examine the comprehensive historical and legal reports detailing a sprawling timeline of disappearances, insurance fraud, and murder spanning across Idaho, Arizona, and Hawaii.
SPEAKER_00It's a massive geographic and chronological scope.
SPEAKER_01It is. And as we go through this material, I want you to keep a central question in mind. How do seemingly ordinary backgrounds slowly warp into a worldview that justifies the absolute unimaginable?
SPEAKER_00That is the essential question we have to answer for you today. Because what we are analyzing here is not just a sequence of criminal acts.
SPEAKER_01Right, it's much more than that.
SPEAKER_00It is a detailed psychological study of how radicalization actually functions in the real world. We are going to see exactly how individuals build a closed echo chamber.
SPEAKER_01A totally insulated environment.
SPEAKER_00Yes, where extreme ideology is nurtured, validated, and ultimately weaponized. And critically, we will examine how that complex theology was utilized as a smokescreen for very terrestrial motives.
SPEAKER_01You mean the financial gain?
SPEAKER_00Specifically calculated financial gain, yes.
SPEAKER_01I think before we can even begin to understand the collision of these two lives, we have to look at the distinct paths Chad and Lori walked before they ever crossed paths in 2018.
SPEAKER_00We need to establish their baselines.
SPEAKER_01Right. The reports give us a very clear picture of what their normal looked like. Let's look at Chad Daybell first.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so where does he start out?
SPEAKER_01Well, he was raised in a mainstream religious household in Springville, Utah. He goes to college, eventually graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in journalism.
SPEAKER_00Seems fairly standard so far.
SPEAKER_01It does. But as I was reading through the source material, there's a very specific detail from his early working life that really stands out.
SPEAKER_00Oh, what was that?
SPEAKER_01To support his growing family, he worked as a gravedigger and a cemetery sexton.
SPEAKER_00We really have to pause on that occupational detail. It is highly significant when we establish his psychological baseline.
SPEAKER_01Because of the proximity to death.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. For years, this man's daily routine involved the mechanics of death, burial, and mourning. He was physically adjacent to the end of human life on a constant daily basis.
SPEAKER_01That would certainly desensitize a person.
SPEAKER_00Right. He was accustomed to the literal physical reality of putting bodies into the ground. Later on, he transitioned into writing and publishing.
SPEAKER_01He founded the Spring Creek Book Company, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes. With his first wife, Tammy. He began authoring doomsday fiction and nonfiction, heavily featuring near-death experiences. But here is the critical psychological pivot.
SPEAKER_01He didn't just call it fiction.
SPEAKER_00No, he claimed that his writing was not merely creative. He told people these were actual visions that were downloaded to him from beyond the veil of death.
SPEAKER_01And we have to look at the financial reality of that publishing company because the context is vital here.
SPEAKER_00The finances were not good.
SPEAKER_01They were terrible. The investigative reports indicate that by the late 2000s, this book business generated, at times, as little as$2,000 a year.
SPEAKER_00That is a staggering level of financial inadequacy for a family.
SPEAKER_01It created severe strain. It required both Chad and Tammy to work multiple part-time jobs, which actually forced Chad to return to his work as a cemetery sexton just to make ends meet.
SPEAKER_00That financial inadequacy is the catalyst. You have an individual experiencing profound chronic financial failure.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But simultaneously, he begins elevating his own status within his community by claiming supernatural abilities.
SPEAKER_01It's a coping mechanism.
SPEAKER_00It is. When an individual cannot achieve traditional terrestrial markers of success like financial stability or professional prestige, they will sometimes construct an alternate reality where they possess secret divine knowledge.
SPEAKER_01Because you can't really argue with a vision, right?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Claiming to receive downloads from beyond the veil is a highly effective mechanism to demand absolute authority. Think about it. If I say I saw something in the spiritual realm, you cannot fact-check me.
SPEAKER_01Right. It's unfalsifiable.
SPEAKER_00It is a method of insisting upon one's own undeniable importance when the real world is telling you that you are failing.
SPEAKER_01So let's pivot and look at where Lori came from because her background is entirely different, but just as volatile.
SPEAKER_00Where did you grow up?
SPEAKER_01She was raised in California in a household with parents who were tax protesters. Specifically, they adhered to a sovereign citizen ideology and were engaged in a decades-long dispute with the IRS.
SPEAKER_00Sovereign citizen background is a critical variable to understand.
SPEAKER_01How does that shape a person's worldview?
SPEAKER_00Well, it inherently instills a deep foundational distrust of government, law enforcement, and conventional authority. It teaches a person from a very young age that the rules governing the rest of society do not necessarily apply to them.
SPEAKER_01As long as they have the real truth.
SPEAKER_00Right, provided they possess a specific alternative understanding of the law. It creates a framework for exceptionalism. It tells a child, you know, we are different, we know the real truth, and the laws of the land are just illusions designed to trap the ignorant.
SPEAKER_01And Lori's adult life clearly involved a strong desire for public attention and validation, too.
SPEAKER_00We see that in her media appearances.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. In 2004, she appeared as a contestant on the television game show Wheel of Fortune.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01And she also competed in the Mrs. Texas Beauty Pageant.
SPEAKER_00So she was very comfortable in the spotlight.
SPEAKER_01Very comfortable. But following that period, the records show a highly tumultuous marital history. She was married five times in total.
SPEAKER_00Five marriages indicates a lot of instability. Definitely.
SPEAKER_01We see a remarkably bitter, highly contested custody battle with her third husband, Joseph Ryan, who, for the timeline's sake, later passed away in 2018 from heart disease.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that was prior to the main events.
SPEAKER_01Yes. She eventually married her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in 2006. Together, they adopted Charles's grandnephew, Joshua Jackson, who went by JJ.
SPEAKER_00And JJ required a lot of specialized care, correct?
SPEAKER_01He did. Because of substance exposure prior to his birth, JJ required highly specialized care and was later diagnosed with autism.
SPEAKER_00When you map out that history, you can observe a clear pattern of instability and intense conflict in her interpersonal relationships.
SPEAKER_01It's a very chaotic baseline.
SPEAKER_00It is. Yes. You have an individual who may be highly susceptible to a narrative that offers absolute certainty, ultimate power, and total immunity from conventional earthly consequences.
SPEAKER_01You know, if we look at their lives prior to 2018, I keep thinking of them as two distinct, highly volatile chemicals kept in separate jars.
SPEAKER_00That's a good way to look at it.
SPEAKER_01Sitting on a shelf, separated by distance and circumstance, they are relatively contained. They have their issues, but they are localized. Right. But they possess properties that, when poured into the same beaker, become highly unstable and incredibly dangerous. That mixing occurred in October of 2018.
SPEAKER_00Aaron Powell And the environment where that mixing occurred is just as important to the timeline as the meeting itself.
SPEAKER_01It was a specific type of conference, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_00Aaron Powell Yes, it was a preparing a people event. These were gatherings focused heavily on doomsday preparation and end times theology.
SPEAKER_01So everyone there was already in a specific mindset.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. The individuals attending these events were already predisposed to apocalyptic thinking. It is an environment that naturally filters out skepticism.
SPEAKER_01Aaron Powell Right, because if you are in a room full of people who believe the world is ending imminently, the baseline for what is considered a normal belief is already shifted to the extreme. Just like witnesses at this event describe the initial connection between Chad and Lori as extremely fast and very flirtatious.
SPEAKER_00But there was a specific hook Chad used, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes. The detail that stops you in your tracks is what Chad told Lori during this initial phase. He told her that they had been married to each other in multiple previous lifetimes.
SPEAKER_00That is such a huge red flag.
SPEAKER_01Following this, they quickly began podcasting together on a program called Time to Warrior Up, and they formed a secretive, highly insular group calling themselves the Church of the Firstborn.
SPEAKER_00I want to break down why telling someone you are married in a past life is such a highly effective manipulation tactic.
SPEAKER_01It skips a lot of steps.
SPEAKER_00It completely bypasses the normal, gradual stages of relationship building. You do not have to own trust. You simply assert that the trust has existed for millennia.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Yeah, it manufactures intimacy.
SPEAKER_00Instant intimacy. And more importantly, it isolates the target by suggesting a cosmic bond that completely supersedes their current legal marriages.
SPEAKER_01So Charles Ballow and Tammy Daybell are suddenly irrelevant.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. It is a recognized technique in radicalization. You redefine reality so that the leader's narrative is the only valid truth. It makes terrestrial marriage vows seem trivial compared to a so-called eternal contract.
SPEAKER_01Well, the specific mechanics of the theology they built together are staggering to read through.
SPEAKER_00What were the specifics on those past lives?
SPEAKER_01Chad claimed he had lived 31 past lives on different planets. He claimed Lori had lived 21, and that they had been together in five of them.
SPEAKER_00On different planets.
SPEAKER_01Yes. But it went much further than just past lives. They developed a light and dark scoring system. They began categorizing every single human being they interacted with on a vibration scale.
SPEAKER_00This specific scoring system is the psychological engine of the entire tragedy. How so? Well, categorizing people on a vibration scale from light to dark is a mechanism of absolute dehumanization. When you label a person as dark, you are deliberately stripping them of their humanity.
SPEAKER_01Taking away their agency.
SPEAKER_00Their agency, their right to exist. You were telling yourself that you were no longer dealing with a spouse, a friend, or a child. You were dealing with a spiritual contagion.
SPEAKER_01And they took this dark categorization to its absolute ultimate extreme.
SPEAKER_00Right. They didn't just stop at calling people dark.
SPEAKER_01No, they claimed that dark people could become completely possessed by evil spirits, pushing out the original soul entirely. They explicitly called these possessed individuals zombies.
SPEAKER_00This is a terrifying escalation.
SPEAKER_01We need to pause here because this is where the theology becomes lethal. They believed the only way to banish the dark spirit and free the original soul was through the death of the physical body.
SPEAKER_00And this is exactly how a belief system provides a divine, irrefutable justification for murder. It's a loophole. A massive loophole. It frames the elimination of a human being not as a violent crime, but as a righteous, necessary, and even loving act of spiritual salvation.
SPEAKER_01Freeing the original soul.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. It flips the moral compass entirely upside down. Concurrently with this rule, Lori began to self-proclaim as an exalted goddess.
SPEAKER_01So she felt totally untouchable.
SPEAKER_00She adopted the unwavering belief that she was immune to earthly consequences, and that her sole purpose was preparing for a literal apocalypse, civil for July 2020.
SPEAKER_01Where only 144,000 chosen individuals would survive.
SPEAKER_00Right. When you believe you are a literal deity tasked with preparing for the end of the world, human laws and human lives become completely expendable obstacles. They are just static in the grand cosmic plan.
SPEAKER_01That brings us to early to mid-2019. The ideological shift moves from theory into fatal practice. And the first target is Lori's current husband, Charles Ballow.
SPEAKER_00There were serious warning signs leading up to this, weren't there?
SPEAKER_01Very severe and highly documented. In early 2019, Lori simply vanishes for 58 days.
SPEAKER_00Almost two months.
SPEAKER_01Charles is desperate. He files for divorce, and in his legal filings, he explicitly cites threats to his life. He documents that Lori claimed he was no longer Charles, but was possessed by a dark spirit named Ned Schneider.
SPEAKER_00Charles Vallow's actions during this period show that he fully recognized the danger.
SPEAKER_01He knew she had changed.
SPEAKER_00He recognized the psychological break in his wife. He attempted to use the legal system, law enforcement, and family interventions to protect himself and his son JJ.
SPEAKER_01But the system didn't move fast enough.
SPEAKER_00No. But crucially, in the background, Charles took a secret financial step. Recognizing the volatility, he changed the beneficiary of his$1 million life insurance policy from Lori to his sister Kay.
SPEAKER_01And that detail changes everything about the timeline.
SPEAKER_00Completely. This introduces the parallel motive. The theology of zombies and spirits provides the psychological justification. But the expectation of that$1 million life insurance policy represents the terrestrial financial objective.
SPEAKER_01Which brings us to July 11, 2019. Charles goes to Lori's home in Chandler, Arizona to pick up JJ.
SPEAKER_00And who is at the house?
SPEAKER_01Lori's brother, Alex Cox, is present at the home. An altercation ensues, and Alex Cox shoots Charles twice, killing him.
SPEAKER_00Did he claim it was an accident?
SPEAKER_01No, Alex immediately claims self-defense, telling police that Charles would become enraged and struck him in the head with a baseball bat.
SPEAKER_00But the physical evidence and the timeline of that morning require incredibly close scrutiny.
SPEAKER_01The forensics didn't match his story.
SPEAKER_00Not at all. First, Alex Cox did not immediately call 911. He waited approximately 45 minutes to call emergency services after shooting Charles.
SPEAKER_0145 minutes while a man is bleeding on the floor.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Furthermore, forensic evidence later demonstrated that the trajectory of the bullets did not match a standing altercation. The forensics showed that Charles was already lying on the floor when the second bullet struck him.
SPEAKER_01And the detail that stands out to anyone reviewing the case files is Lori's behavior immediately after her husband was shot dead in her own home.
SPEAKER_00She wasn't hysterical.
SPEAKER_01She was described by law enforcement at the scene as completely nonchalant. While her husband lay dead on the floor, she took JJ, dropped him off at school, and then stopped at a Burger King and a Walgreens to purchase flip-flops. Later, investigators uncovered text messages sent two days prior to the shooting where Lori told her brother Alex to be like Nephi, which is interpreted as a religious command from scripture to slay a wicked man.
SPEAKER_00So it was premeditated.
SPEAKER_01Let me push back on this for a second. It is one thing to adopt a strange theology, it is entirely another to step over your husband's body, go by flip-flops, and eat fast food. How does a human brain actually sever empathy that cleanly?
SPEAKER_00It is staggering to comprehend, but that total lack of emotional response is the direct, intended result of the zombie ideology we discussed.
SPEAKER_01Because to her, he wasn't Charles anymore.
SPEAKER_00Right. To Lori, the man bleeding on her floor was not Charles Vallow. Charles was already gone. The entity in her house was Ned Schneider, a dark obstacle.
SPEAKER_01So her empathy was just bypassed.
SPEAKER_00Completely bypassed by her radicalization. However, we must also factor in the expectation of the$1 million life insurance payout.
SPEAKER_01Right, the money.
SPEAKER_00In her mind, she believed she was simultaneously eliminating a demon and acquiring massive wealth to fund her apocalyptic mission. The nonchalance at Walgreens is the product of religious delusion perfectly overlapping with intense financial greed.
SPEAKER_01But because Charles had secretly changed his life insurance beneficiary, Lori did not get the million dollars.
SPEAKER_00Which was a massive disruption to their plans.
SPEAKER_01And with Charles gone, the echo chamber didn't dissolve. It demanded new targets. By August of 2019, Lori relocated to Rexburg, Idaho to be closer to Chad Daybell.
SPEAKER_00And she made a very specific move regarding JJ right before leaving.
SPEAKER_01Yes, just before the move, she sold JJ's specialized autism service dog.
SPEAKER_00Selling the service dog is a highly calculated logistical step.
SPEAKER_01It's devastating.
SPEAKER_00It is. A mother does not sell a vital support animal for an autistic child unless she knows the animal will no longer be needed. It contradicts any later narrative of spontaneous or accidental events regarding the children. It's cold and it's methodical.
SPEAKER_01The timeline of the children's disappearances is chillingly precise. Sixteen-year-old Tylee was last seen alive on September 8, 2019, during a trip to Yellowstone National Park with Lori, JJ, and Alex Cox.
SPEAKER_00And after that date.
SPEAKER_01After that specific date, Tyler is never seen again. She's never enrolled in any high school in Idaho, despite Lori claiming to friends and neighbors that Tyle was attending classes at BYU Idaho.
SPEAKER_00And what about JJ?
SPEAKER_01Then, seven-year-old JJ is last seen on September 22. A friend who is staying at Lori's house witnessed Alex Cox carrying a sleeping JJ upstairs late at night. The next morning, JJ is gone.
SPEAKER_00Did Lori offer an explanation to the friend?
SPEAKER_01Lori tells the friend that Alex took him away because he was acting out and misbehaving.
SPEAKER_00Notice the systematic sequential removal of obstacles. Charles was an obstacle to the relationship and the finances. Now the children are labeled as obstacles.
SPEAKER_01They were just in the way.
SPEAKER_00We know from intercepted digital communications that Chad and Lori began applying the zombie label to Ty Lee and JJ shortly before they vanished.
SPEAKER_01So the theology adapted.
SPEAKER_00It shows how highly adaptable their ideology was. Whoever became inconvenient to their lifestyle, their romantic relationship, or their finances was simply diagnosed as a dark spirit requiring physical elimination.
SPEAKER_01Following JJ's disappearance, Lori formally contacted his elementary school to withdraw him, claiming she was going to homeschool him.
SPEAKER_00Just creating a paper trail of excuses.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And here is where the financial motive firmly anchors the cosmic delusions back to Earth. Lori continued to collect the children's Social Security survivor benefits funds they received due to the prior deaths of their respective fathers long after both children had vanished. It wasn't just madness, it was highly practical.
SPEAKER_00The Federal Bureau of Investigation recovered text messages between Chad and Lori where they were discussing the children's possession, but in the same threads, they explicitly mention a perfectly orchestrated plan. Wow. They use phrases like working on Zs, referring to zombies. The religious fervor was the vocabulary they used to communicate, but the perfectly orchestrated plan to acquire social security funds and redirect life insurance money reveals a cold, calculating terrestrial methodology.
SPEAKER_01So the religion was just the cover story.
SPEAKER_00They were funding their life together with the benefits of the people they eliminated.
SPEAKER_01The conspiracy then widened significantly in October and November of 2019. It expanded outward to eliminate Chad's wife, Tammy Daybell, and another relative, all to consolidate finances and fulfill what they believed was their apocalyptic prophecy.
SPEAKER_00The scope of the violence just keeps growing.
SPEAKER_01On October 2, there was an attempted murder of Brandon Boudreaux in Arizona. Boudreaux was the estranged husband of Lori's niece, Milani. He was shot at from a Jeep while pulling into his driveway.
SPEAKER_00Did he see who was shooting?
SPEAKER_01The bullet missed his head by inches, shattering his window. Boudreaux didn't see the shooter clearly, but he was able to identify the license plate of the Jeep, and it was registered to the deceased Charles Valow.
SPEAKER_00The attempt on Brandon Boudreaux is a critical data point because it demonstrates how the echo chamber had expanded to recruit others.
SPEAKER_01Malani was involved.
SPEAKER_00Lori's niece had become heavily involved in the religious group's teachings. Boudreaux suspected the attempt on his life was motivated directly by his own life insurance policy.
SPEAKER_01Another insurance payout.
SPEAKER_00Right, suggesting Lori, Chad, and Alex were attempting to access his funds through the niece. The violence was no longer contained to their immediate households, it was escalating and branching out across state lines.
SPEAKER_01Then, on October 19, the tragedy strikes Chad's household. Tammy Daybell was murdered.
SPEAKER_00And Chad had been setting the stage for this, hadn't he?
SPEAKER_01He had. Months earlier, Chad had told neighbors he had received a vision that Tammy would die before her 50th birthday.
SPEAKER_00Just planting the seed.
SPEAKER_01And just 10 days before her actual death, Tammy called police to report being attacked in her driveway by a masked man holding what she thought was a paintball gun.
SPEAKER_00But it wasn't a paintball gun.
SPEAKER_01Investigators later suspected this was actually a jammed AR fifteen wielded by Alex Cox.
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_01When Tammy was found dead in her bed on the 19th, Chad claimed she had simply died of natural causes in her sleep. He vehemently refused an initial autopsy, citing his family's grief, and the local coroner accepted his decision without investigating further.
SPEAKER_00Chen's behavior following his wife's sudden death was noted by several witnesses and family members as highly anomalous.
SPEAKER_01How so?
SPEAKER_00People described him as acting incredibly businesslike. During her funeral, he inexplicably referred to his late wife of decades as lazy.
SPEAKER_01At her funeral, that's unbelievably cold.
SPEAKER_00This profound lack of appropriate effect perfectly mirrors Lori's behavior after Charles' death. Furthermore, the financial motive crystallizes here again. Chad quickly collected$430,000 in life insurance payouts following Tammy's death.
SPEAKER_01And the timeline accelerates incredibly fast here. Just two weeks after Tammy's death, Chad and Lori were married on a beach in Hawaii on November 5, 2019. Two weeks. The digital evidence surrounding this wedding is staggering. Internet search histories reveal that Lori had been searching for wedding dresses online on the exact day of Tammy Daybell's burial.
SPEAKER_00That is just brazen.
SPEAKER_01Even more damning, she had ordered their specific Malachite wedding rings months earlier in August, while Tammy was still alive and well in Idaho.
SPEAKER_00Showing clear premeditation.
SPEAKER_01Let me stop you because this is the contradiction that fascinates me. They claim to be exalted spiritual beings, immune from terrestrial laws, receiving encrypted instructions directly from heaven.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01Yet they leave a trail of Amazon receipts, Google searches, and credit card charges.
SPEAKER_00It is a massive contradiction, and it is exactly what law enforcement and prosecutors focused on. They left a mundane, easily tracked trail of digital evidence, Amazon searches, ring purchases, burner phones, and cell phone location data.
SPEAKER_01It's almost amateurish.
SPEAKER_00This is a common phenomenon with radicalized individuals. Their cosmic delusions did not make them criminal masterminds. They made them incredibly sloppy.
SPEAKER_01Because they thought they were untouchable.
SPEAKER_00They believed their own myth of invincibility so deeply that it completely blinded them to the reality of cellular triangulation and digital forensics. They thought they were operating on a spiritual plane, forgetting that their cell phones were pinging terrestrial towers every few seconds.
SPEAKER_01The facade truly began to crumble in late 2019. On November 26th, local police arrived at Lori's townhome in Rexburg to conduct a welfare check on J.J.
SPEAKER_00This was initiated by JJ's grandmother, correct?
SPEAKER_01Yes. This was prompted by the relentless efforts of his grandmother, Kay, who knew something was terribly wrong. Chad was present at the townhome and blatantly lied to investigators, claiming he hardly knew Lori and didn't have her phone number.
SPEAKER_00Just a transparent lie.
SPEAKER_01Lori then told police JJ was in Arizona staying with a friend. The very next day, realizing the authorities were closing in, the couple fled to Hawaii.
SPEAKER_00Running from the jurisdiction.
SPEAKER_01They lived in a gated community, entirely funding their lifestyle with Tammy's$430,000 life insurance payout. And on their rental applications for this property, they explicitly stated they had no kids.
SPEAKER_00Fleeing jurisdiction the moment police ask questions is a classic, undeniable indicator of consciousness of guilt.
SPEAKER_01And the rental application is basically a confession.
SPEAKER_00By voluntarily writing that they had no children on a formal rental application, they were legally documenting their desire to erase JJ entirely from existence. Meanwhile, their primary enforcer, Alex Cox, remained behind on the mainland.
SPEAKER_01Before leaving for Hawaii, Chad gave Alex Cox a patriarchal blessing, which is a religious ritual. In this recording, Chad praised Alex as a hero and a prophet.
SPEAKER_00Validating him one last time.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. But on December 12th, the day after learning that authorities were moving forward with exhuming Tammy Daybell's body for a delayed autopsy, Alex Cox died suddenly of blood clots in his lungs.
SPEAKER_00The timing of that is incredible.
SPEAKER_01Witnesses later testified that in the days prior, Alex had expressed intense fear that Chad and Lori were setting him up to be their fall guy.
SPEAKER_00Alex Cox's sudden death from physiological causes immediately following the news of the exhumation is a remarkable turn of events.
SPEAKER_01Do you think it was stress induced?
SPEAKER_00Whether it was induced by the extreme physiological stress of his actions getting up to him, or whether it was purely coincidental, his death fundamentally altered the investigation.
SPEAKER_01Because the trigger man was dead.
SPEAKER_00It removed the only other direct conspirator who knew exactly where the bodies were buried and exactly who pulled the triggers. But critically, it left Chad and Lori totally exposed.
SPEAKER_01They had no one left to blame.
SPEAKER_00They could no longer hide behind Alex. They were the sole surviving architects of the conspiracy.
SPEAKER_01The horrific culmination of the investigation occurred in June of 2020.
SPEAKER_00This is when they searched Chad's property.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Using the historical location data retrieved from Alex Cox's cell phone, specifically noting where his phone lingered in the early morning hours after Tylie and JJ were last seen alive, investigators obtained a warrant to search Chad Daybell's property.
SPEAKER_00And Chad was there when they arrived.
SPEAKER_01As the heavy machinery arrived and the search began, Chad attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle but was quickly apprehended. Law enforcement unearthed the remains of both children in an area of the yard Chad had casually referred to as his pet cemetery.
SPEAKER_00The forensic reality of those burials is difficult to discuss, but it completely shatters their sterile religious justifications.
SPEAKER_01It showed the reality of what they did.
SPEAKER_00J.J. was buried methodically.
SPEAKER_01And Tyley.
SPEAKER_00Tyle's remains, however, were subjected to horrific, chaotic destruction. She was dismembered and burned in a fire pit.
SPEAKER_01That is just unspeakable.
SPEAKER_00When you compare the detached religious rhetoric of freeing a spirit from a zombie to the brutal, gruesome reality of burning and dismembering a teenager in a backyard, the absolute depravity of their ideology is laid bare. The belief system was nothing more than a weapon utilized against dependent children.
SPEAKER_01This brings us to the reckoning of the Idaho trials of 2023 and 2024.
SPEAKER_00The legal system finally steps in.
SPEAKER_01The legal system stepped in and methodically deconstructed the doomsday delusions to expose a foundation built entirely on sex, money, and power. In 2023, Lori faced a jury.
SPEAKER_00And she was convicted on everything.
SPEAKER_01She was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to multiple consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. During her sentencing, she gave a chilling courtroom statement.
SPEAKER_00Did she show any remorse?
SPEAKER_01None. She claims she regularly speaks directly to Jesus that her children and Tammy are happy and extremely busy in heaven, and she stated to the judge, quote, accidental deaths happen.
SPEAKER_00Her statement is a textbook demonstration of intractable radicalization.
SPEAKER_01Just totally disconnected from reality.
SPEAKER_00Even after the physical evidence is presented, even after listening to weeks of forensic testimony, even after a jury conviction, the psychological armor remains completely unbreached. By calling the brutal murders accidental deaths, she is still flatly refusing to acknowledge human agency or terrestrial law. She remains entirely insulated within the echo chamber she helped construct. The real world has not penetrated her mind.
SPEAKER_01Chad's trial followed a year later in 2024. His defense strategy was entirely predictable. He tried to place the entirety of the blame on Lori and Alex Cox.
SPEAKER_00He tried to play the victim.
SPEAKER_01His lawyers portrayed Chad as a naive, quiet, religious man who was manipulated by a charismatic woman. However, prosecutors systematically demonstrated Chad's pivotal role.
SPEAKER_00They showed he was the leader.
SPEAKER_01They proved he was the architect of the theology. He was the one who assigned the arbitrary light and dark scores. He provided the exact religious justification required for Alex and Lori to commit the murders.
SPEAKER_00And how did he react at sentencing?
SPEAKER_01When it came time for the penalty phase, Chad remained totally silent. The jury found him guilty of all charges, including the insurance fraud related to his wife's death, and he was sentenced to death.
SPEAKER_00Chad's absolute silence during the penalty phase is highly indicative of a complete collapse of his constructed reality.
SPEAKER_01He finally ran out of words.
SPEAKER_00For years, he controlled the narrative. He controlled it through his self-published books, his podcasts, and his unchallengeable downloads from The Vail. But in a court of law, facing empirical evidence, cellular data, and forensic pathology, his supernatural authority evaporated.
SPEAKER_01The jury didn't care about his past lives.
SPEAKER_00He had no visions to offer a judge. The silence was the sound of a man who realized his illusions could not save him from consequence.
SPEAKER_01You know, I keep thinking of the analogy of a theatrical play.
SPEAKER_00Oh so?
SPEAKER_01It is like turning on the harsh, fluorescent maintenance lights at the end of a highly dramatic, elaborate stage production. The grand cosmic delusions regarding multiple probations on other planets, dark portals, and epic spiritual warfare are entirely stripped away by the legal process.
SPEAKER_00The facade is gone.
SPEAKER_01What remains on the stage under those harsh lights is just the grim terrestrial reality of grand theft, insurance fraud, and brutal selfish conspiracy.
SPEAKER_00That is precisely what the trial process accomplished. It translated a story of spiritual warfare back into a story of criminal statutes.
SPEAKER_01Stripped it down to its core.
SPEAKER_00It proved that regardless of the vocabulary you invent, whether you call someone a demon, a dark spirit, or a zombie murder is still murder, and theft is still theft. The law does not recognize the vibration scale.
SPEAKER_01The final acts of this legal saga bring us to the Arizona trials, stretching from 2025 up to the present date in 2026.
SPEAKER_00Lori's legal issues weren't over.
SPEAKER_01Not at all. Lori's legal battles continued in Arizona, where she faced charges for conspiring to murder Charles Vallow and attempting to murder Brandon Boudreaux. In early 2025, during the trial for Charles' death, Lori made the decision to request to act as her own attorney.
SPEAKER_00That is always a disastrous decision.
SPEAKER_01She was permitted to represent herself, and her behavior in the courtroom was highly combative. She aggressively cross-examined witnesses, including a woman who had gone on a single date with Charles shortly before his death. Wow. Despite her exhaustive efforts to claim Alex Cox acted in pure self-defense, the jury found her guilty.
SPEAKER_00Choosing to represent oneself in a highly complex murder conspiracy trial is almost always a manifestation of extreme narcissism.
SPEAKER_01It's an ego trip.
SPEAKER_00It reflects a deep-seated belief that one is inherently smarter than trained legal professionals. More importantly, for Lori, it provided a platform to exert control over the narrative in the courtroom.
SPEAKER_01Taking shots at Charles's date.
SPEAKER_00Her combative cross-examinations, especially of a woman who briefly dated her deceased husband, demonstrate that the hostility, jealousy, and entitlement underlying her radicalization were still actively driving her behavior, even from behind bars.
SPEAKER_01The trial for the attempted murder of Brandon Boudreaux followed in mid-2025. During these proceedings, Lori's behavior became increasingly theatrical and disruptive.
SPEAKER_00She tried to delay it, didn't she?
SPEAKER_01She actually showed up to court in a wheelchair claiming severe physical illness, which multiple medical examinations completely failed to corroborate.
SPEAKER_00Feigning illness.
SPEAKER_01During her opening statements to the jury, she compared her situation to Jesus being betrayed by Judas, claiming she was a victim who was only about spreading love.
SPEAKER_00The jury didn't buy it, I assume.
SPEAKER_01They saw right through it. They deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding her guilty, resulting in two additional consecutive life sentences without parole.
SPEAKER_00The invocation of religious martyrdom, literally comparing herself to Jesus, is the ultimate defensive posture for a radicalized individual facing accountability.
SPEAKER_01When she couldn't fake being sick, she played the martyr.
SPEAKER_00When physical illness tactics fail to delay the proceedings, she retreats back to the claim of divine persecution. But the rapid 30-minute jury deliberation highlights how transparently fraudulent her narrative appeared to an objective group of peers.
SPEAKER_0130 minutes is incredibly fast.
SPEAKER_00The echo chamber works on the inside, but it immediately falls apart when exposed to the outside world.
SPEAKER_01Following her convictions in Arizona, Lori was extradited back to Idaho in late 2025 to begin serving her life sentences. And there is a fascinating detail that brings us right to the present moment.
SPEAKER_00What happened recently?
SPEAKER_01She participated in a dateline interview in March of 2025. In this interview, she remained completely and utterly defiant.
SPEAKER_00Even after everything.
SPEAKER_01She claimed Jesus had shown her a specific vision that she and Chad would eventually be exonerated and released from prison. She even casually mentioned to the interviewer that upon her release, she thought she might go on the television show Dancing with the Stars.
SPEAKER_00That interview perfectly encapsulates the terrifying durability of extreme radicalization.
SPEAKER_01It's honestly hard to fathom.
SPEAKER_00Think about what she has faced: multiple jury convictions, overwhelming forensic evidence, the destruction of her own children, and multiple consecutive life sentences. None of it has penetrated her psychological armor.
SPEAKER_01Dancing with the stars.
SPEAKER_00She is facing the rest of her natural life in a maximum security facility, yet she is discussing reality television based on a divine vision of exoneration. The delusion is absolute and it is entirely impenetrable by facts.
SPEAKER_01We have tracked a truly harrowing journey today from a quiet life of self-publishing and beauty pageants to a sprawling multi-state web of destruction.
SPEAKER_00It's an incredibly heavy timeline.
SPEAKER_01It was a tragedy fueled by the deadliest possible combination. Absolute fanaticism merged with calculated terrestrial greed. The spiritual rhetoric provided the permission, but the insurance payouts and the social security funds provided the tangible motive.
SPEAKER_00The application of this analysis for anyone listening is recognizing the vital importance of critical thinking and understanding the profound danger of isolation.
SPEAKER_01It's a warning.
SPEAKER_00This timeline illustrates exactly how close echo chambers operate. When extreme beliefs are introduced, validated by a partner, and never challenged by outside reality, they can slowly normalize the unthinkable.
SPEAKER_01It creeps up on you.
SPEAKER_00It demonstrates that radicalization does not happen overnight. It is a methodical process of redefining reality until the taking of a human life is perceived not just as acceptable, but as a logical necessity.
